3-D NUMERICAL MODELLING OF GROUND VIBRATION WAVES INDUCED BY BLASTING AT A QUARY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. Aksoy, A. Kahriman)

Ground vibrations arising from excavation with blasting is one of the environmental problems in mining industry. The prediction of ground vibrations and the realization of controlled blasting based on this prediction have a great importance in order to minimize the environmental effects of blasting. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ground vibrations induced by blasting at Akyol Quarry which selected as a test site after the determination of the geomechanical properties of the rock mass with a computer s...

A COMPARISON BETWEEN EC/UV/TiO2 AND EC/UV/ZnO SYSTEMS IN THE REMOVAL OF C.I. ACID YELLOW 23 AS A MODEL CONTAMINANT

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, N. Modirshahla, M.A. Behnajady, G. Safarzadeh, M. Abdoli, B. Vahid)

In this study, the efficiency of EC/UV/TiO2 and EC/UV/ZnO coupled systems, on the decolorization of C.I. Acid Yellow 23 (AY23) as a model contaminant was compared. It was found that for the efficient decolorization of 40 mg L-1 of AY23 using steel304/Al (anode/cathode) as electrodes, with the distance of 15 mm, I = 120 A m-2, electrolyte concentration was 800 mg L-1 for both systems, but pH and initial concentrations of catalysts were 5.53, 800 mg L-1 for TiO2 and 6.29, 650 mg L-1 for ZnO systems, respectively. Th...

A CONDITIONING METHOD FOR ARGILLACEOUS ROCK CORES HAVING DISKING PROPENSITY WITH THE INFLUENCE OF WATER

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, E. Emir, S. Beyhan)

In Turkey in the Tuncbilek coal basin, the subject area of this study, there are gray and brown colored marl formations. As known, the test specimens shall be conditioned in such a way as to be reached to the natural water content before the strength tests, and it is preferred to use the saturated specimen in order to be representative for levels below the groundwater. It is noticed that the gray marl core samples taken from Tuncbilek were broken into parallel slices by the influence of water in less than half an ...

A MINERALOGICAL AND GEOCHEMICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE TAILING IMPOUNDMENT AT RUDNANY DEPOSIT, SLOVAKIA

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, T. KLIMKO, J. MICHNOVA, L. JURKOVIC B. Lalinska)

Mineralogical composition of mining wastes deposited in voluminous tailing impoundments around the world is the key factor that controls retention and release of pollutants. Here we report geochemical and mineralogical investigation of one tailing impoundment from Slovakia. Ore deposit RudЕ€any was exploited from the end of 19th century and at 1963 the ore started to be extracted by flotation process (barite, siderite and sulfides). Waste after flotation was deposited into one tailing impoundment, which carries ap...

A NOVEL DESIGN APPROACH FOR GEOTEXTILES USED IN SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL SITES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, S. S. Ugur, S. Sener, M. Karaboyaci)

Geotextiles are used commonly in domestic solid waste disposal sites as a protector filter and separator. Because, sand and silt particles included in waste leachate can fill space of gravels which are using as drainage layers. Therefore, the space of the drainage layer is bunged up with particles and it is decompose. This case is not wanted so the usage of the geotextiles has quite importance in waste disposal sites. In general, geotextile lies between waste and drainage layers and it is used to filtration. In or...

A REVIEW ABOUT SUBSTRUCTURE SYSTEM, MANAGEMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF THE INFORMATION AND RE-CONSTRUCTION STUDIES ABOUT INFORMATION SYSTEM OF URBAN AREAS IN THE WHOLENESS OF URBAN IN TURKEY

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Erdi, F. Sari)

There are lots of institutions active in Turkey to carry out institutional services in urban areas each of which have different purposes and work rules. Each of these institutions was founded to have different functions according to their own special institutional regulations and rules. Every institution in cities works just by collecting its required information and only in the area of its responsibility. There are big negations in satisfying the requirements of its related institution as well as difficulties are...

A REVIEW OF DIET FORMULATION STRATEGIES AND FEEDING SYSTEMS TO REDUCE EXCRETORY AND FEED WASTES IN AQUACULTURE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, G. L. Mihalca, O. Tita, M. Tita, A. Mihalca)

Significant efforts should be devoted to reducing waste outputs from aquaculture operations in order to lower the environmental impacts of aquaculture in many parts of the world. Since most aquaculture wastes are ultimately from dietary origin, reduction of waste outputs should first be through improvements of diet formulation and feeding strategies. The first step in the production of feeds producing less solid waste is to eliminate poorly digestible ingredients (such as whole grain or grain byproducts used as bi...

A SHOCK-WAVE ENERGY ABSORBER: THE DEVICE AND MATHEMATICAL MODEL

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, I. Lomidze, N. Chikhradze, E. Mataradze, T. Krauthammer)

We propose a device which produces a high density cloud of spray that is consisted mostly of water micro droplets. The cloud automatically occurs when an electromagnetic pulse or/and shock wave from a close explosion matches the device. The ratio of absorbed energy of the dangerous shock wave depends on the density of the cloud and on its spreading speed as well as on the size and the mass of micro droplets. We have developed a mathematical model of physical processes in the Absorber. Numerical simulations show sa...

ADSORPTION OF TRIHALOMETHANES ON ACTIVATED LIGNITE

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, M. E. Aydin, S. Tongur)

All materials which are rich in carbon content could be used after activation or adsorption. These materials include coal, lignite, wood, Boone, coconut shells, nut shells, rice husks, and various fruits seeds. Activated carbons obtained from these materials are usually hard and dense. Therefore they could be used in water treatment for long time without deterioration. Activated carbons used in controlling environmental pollution should have high surface area and porosity. Activated carbon is obtained by the proce...

AEROGICAL DISASTERS AGAINST THE BACKGROUND OF OTHER DISASTERS IN POLISH COAL MINES

(SGEM Scientific GeoConference, 2010, A. Struminski, B. M. Struminska, M. Nowysz)

The paper presents the evaluation of mine disasters statistics with particular reference to aerological disasters which took place in Polish coal mines from 1945 to 2008. These disasters concern the events which the death of five or more miners working in the mine underground. They were caused by: breakout or outflow of carbon dioxide, methane explosion, tremors and roof falls, explosion of coal dust, fires, heat strokes, water outflows or breakdown of mine equipment. The special attention was paid to fire prevent...
